RUMOR: Yahya Abdul-Mateen II In Talks To Play Wonder Man

Yahya Abdul-Mateen II Could Be The MCU’s Wonder Man

It goes without saying that Yahya Abdul-Mateen II is one of Hollywood’s most sought-after actors. With major roles in HBO’s ‘WATCHMEN’ as Dr. Manhattan, Black Manta in James Wan’s ‘AQUAMAN’ and its sequel ‘AQUAMAN and The Lost Kingdom’ even Candyman in Nia DaCosta’s ‘Candyman’ remake, Abdul-Mateen is a name you want attached to your project.

As the rumor mills continue to churn around the internet and social media, a new report from Screen Geek suggests that Yahya Abdul-Mateen II is currently in talks to portray Simon Williams aka Wonder Man. According to Screen Geek, they obtained a casting grid that is currently casting for Simon Williams/Wonder Man and his manager and two other female leads; frontrunners for these roles have not been revealed.

If indeed cast, Mateen could be a huge contender in the MCU going forward as the failed actor turned hero has deep connections to Vision, is a former lover of Wanda Maximoff/Scarlet Witch, and is a founding member of the West Coast Avengers.

There’s a lot of room here for big contenders for Wonder Man and Mateen if cast. But making the back-and-forth jump between the MCU and the DCEU is a feat not many have been able to tackle. Even the likes of James Gunn has had to take his time bouncing between the two powerhouses as he seemingly teeters the becoming a more prominent contender over at Warner Bros. Discovery than Marvel Studios.

Gunn does have Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 releasing in 2023 and the GOTG Holiday special for Disney+ and currently pitching new DC films to WBD whilst also preparing to start production on season two of Peacemaker. All that to say that Marvel pulling Yahya Abdul-Mateen II would be huge as the multi-billion dollar studio keeps bringing in heavy hitters like the now-confirmed Harrison Ford and the rumored Sacha Baron Cohen.
