Batwoman Season 2 Introducing A New Character To Replace Kate Kane

Just weeks after Ruby Rose’s exit from The CW’s Batwoman, the actress reflects on her exit from the series, and The CW announces the introduction of an all-new character to take up the mantle.

A few weeks ago the internet was shaken with the unfortunate news that Ruby Rose had exited the role of Kate Kane/Batwoman just days after the series’ first season came to a close. While the initial news made the rounds. It was revealed that Ruby Rose and The CW had mutually parted ways. Fast forward 24 hours after the news broke, a new report was released stating why The CW and Ruby Rose decided to part ways.

According to that report by TV Line, the reason for the mutual separation was due to the fact that Ruby Rose became unhappy with her involvement in the TV series. Revealing that the demanding workload was too much and that the actress didn’t acclimate well to life in Vancouver where all of CW’s series are filmed. In turn, according to this same report, Ruby Rose became very unpleasant to work with on the set. This unfortunately leads to both parties being unhappy and the best course of action was to walk away. Simple right? There might be more to this though if Rose’s Instagram post is anything to go by.

As seen in her Instagram post, Rose sends her thanks and regards to the cast, crew, producers, and CW studios for her time on the series. The part of the caption that’s a bit unsettling is that Rose states that she has stayed silent because it is her choice for the time being. That alone shows that there’s more to this story that is being displayed to the public. All in all, it is a PR move at the end of the day and someone has to save face and cover their own backs. But things will eventually come to light.

With that being said, Variety has reported that The CW is bringing in a new character entirely in order to take up the mantle of Batwoman instead of just recasting for the role of Kate Kane, the role previously filled by Ruby Rose. According to this same report, the new charter that will be taking up the mantle of Batwoman is named Ryan Wilder and could possibly be played by a woman of color. Just for the sake of avoiding confusion, the name of Ryan Wilder might not be the character’s actual name by the time season two of Batwoman roles around.

The character of Ryan Wilder is described as:

“She’s likable, messy, a little goofy and untamed. She’s also nothing like Kate Kane, the woman who wore the batsuit before her. With no one in her life to keep her on track, Ryan spent years as a drug-runner, dodging the GCPD and masking her pain with bad habits. A girl who would steal milk for an alley cat could also kill you with her bare hands, Ryan is the most dangerous type of fighter: highly skilled and wildly undisciplined. An out lesbian. Athletic. Raw. Passionate. Fallible. And very much not your stereotypical All-American hero.”
