Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson‘s Black Adam solo film has spent years in development. And by years I mean YEARS (an official two years if you’re only counting development on his solo film). First thought to appear in this year’s Shazam! as the main villain, in 2017 WB and New Line Cinema revealed that Dwayne Johnson‘s Black Adam will be getting the solo film treatment instead. Since then the film has been working on a script that’s supposedly “coming along well”.

Now we can blame Johnson’s busy schedule on this film being shelved, resurrected, given new life or whatever you may want to call it, since he’s been cast for the role for about 9 years or so; but that’s not really the case or is it? Anyways…

A new report from DiscussingFilm giving us a new update on the current state of the DCEU, has revealed some interesting details about the film. from That Hashtag Show‘s report regarding the appearance of Hawkman in the film as the main antagonist who will be pitted against Black Adam, to the appearance of Atom Smasher and Stargirl as well.

The Geeks Worldwide has also reported that the Black Adam solo film will draw inspiration from Black Adam‘s The Dark Age comic.

Black Adam takes extreme measures in his attempts to resurrect his wife, the superhero Isis, while the Justice League, Justice Society of America and other agencies seek to bring him before a world court or get revenge for his slaughter of thousands of Bialyan citizens.

Now back to DiscussingFilm‘s rumor. Their rumor suggests that if the Black Adam solo film is well received, that two new films can potentially spin-off from here. That being a team-up film for Hawkman and Hawkgirl and another Justice League-esque film for the Justice Society of America.

Now production start on Black Adam is set for March 2020, with New Line and WB potentially eyeing a 2021-2022 release year. It’ll be interesting to see how this works out especially with Stargirl, since she has a live action series currently in development for the DC Universe.

Once again, this is just a rumor for now so take it with a grain of Pink Himalayan Salt, nothing has yet to be officially announced, but once it is, we will make sure to update you.
