Six years has passed since Henry Cavill dawned the red cape and the universally known symbol of hope, or the ‘S’. Two years since the release of probably comic fandoms most conflicting film, ‘Justice League’ (2017). And just over two weeks since Cavill spoke to ‘Men’s Health Magazine’ addressing his future as the Superman.
In a recent interview with ‘Fox 5’s Kevin McCarthy’, Henry Cavill addresses the ‘Snyder Cut’, the toxicity in the fandom, and Superman.
The Snyder Cut
During the interview, Cavill was asked for his thoughts on the ‘#ReleaseTheSnyderCut’ movement and the alternative cut or version of ‘Justice League’ that many, including majority of the League, are campaigning for WB to release.
Here’s what Henry had to say:
“I have not seen any Snyder Cut, I don’t know if there’s anything that exists that is a Snyder Cut. I’m sure there’s footage out there which has probably been pieced together over the years. I’m always interested to see how that stuff turns out but that is very much a chapter of my past, I would rather talk about what is going to happen in the future.”
Many fans of the Snyder Cut movement expressed their disappointment in the lack of support from Cavill on November 17th, the two year anniversary of ‘Justice League’. Granted, now that we know he has not seen the alternate cut, this may be exactly why.
However, Cavill did comment on the toxicity of the fandom…
“I understand what you’re saying, but when it comes to fans, it is a fan’s right to have whatever opinion they want to have,” Cavill explained. “And people are going to be upset, especially when you’re talking about books or games, because you’re never going to be the exact person who they had in their head, or who they played on ‘The Witcher 3‘, for example. I don’t necessarily consider that toxic, I just consider that passionate. And it’s something which I obviously had to come to terms with over the years.”
The pressures of the film industry are nothing new to Cavill, however he can be assured the Snyder Cut fandom is one fandom that knows how to get their message across. While he throws water on a somewhat fiery situation, Cavill continues to look ahead, gracefully making his way through Hollywood.
Superman
Undeniably, Superman’s Return (Henry Cavill), is one every fan can agree to say we want. Last month, Cavill mentioned he still has the cape in the closet and has not given up on the role. Consistent to those comments, in the recent interview which carries on from the first quote of the article, Cavill says…
“[-] I would rather talk about what is going to happen in the future. The future of Superman, how I can express that character from the comic books. Which ties in nicely to ‘Man of Steel’. ‘Man of Steel’ I really like that movie and I’d like to be able to tell that story, from where it was left.”
Cavill continues to say he can’t give fans any information or any type of confirmation of if it will or won’t happen. However it is clear that Cavill has definitely not given up on the role and would like to continue the story of Superman.
We will be waiting!!!!
