DC‘s New Gods film has been developing quite smoothly since its announcement. Tapping Ava DuVernay (A Wrinkle in Time) to direct the film and Kario Salem to pen the script.

With the New Gods film announcement coming prior to Marvel Studios announcing ‘The Eternals’, fan debate sparked, and fans were quick to run their false narrative of Marvel copying DC and DC copying Marvel. But that’s besides the point.

If you read our previous article about Black Adam, you’d know that DiscussingFilm has released a huge report regarding DC’s upcoming films. Both that are currently in development and those that were secretly, not so secretly shelved due to developmental hell.

So what do we know about the New Gods film and the possible live-action debut of New Gods leader Darkseid? Here’s the rundown.

We know Ava DuVernay will direct. Kario Salem is penning the script. The plot is set to focus on Scott Free/Mister Miracle and his wife Big Barda escaping Apokolips (Why? We don’t know…yet); while the sub-plots of the film will focus on the other New Gods.

The antagonists of the film are set to be The Female Furies, who in the comics are led by none other than Granny Goodness.

As I mentioned above, Granny Goodness leads and trains the female eccentric team, and uses them to carry out orders set by Apokolips leader, Darkseid. The majority of the cast is set to consist of POC and women. Making it a very diverse film, which is something movie studios are looking to accomplish due to fans requesting diversity in films.

With all that being said, the New Gods film will mark the first ever live-action debut of many DC Comics characters. Notably Mister Miracle, Big Barda, The Female Furies, possibly Granny Goodness and Darkseid.
