[UPDATE] – Following the official return of BAKI Season Two, Netflix announced that all 13 episodes of BAKI: Part 2 will arrive on April 30th.

BAKI Season One arrived on Netflix this past December for a total of 13 episodes. While Netflix ran its whole season which consisted of 26 episodes in Japan. Netflix split the one season in two and gave us only 13 episodes.

With the anime getting great reception (from myself included). Fans were anxious for a second season and we finally have it. While we don’t have an official release date or trailer yet. Netflix did provide a description of the upcoming season.

The protagonist, Baki Hanma, trains with an intense focus to become strong enough to surpass his father, Yujiro Hanma, the strongest fighter in the world. Five of the world’s most violent and brutal death row inmates are gathering to face Baki. Their objective is to taste defeat — their unmatched strength and skill have led them to grow bored of life itself, and they now seek out Baki in the hopes that he can overwhelm and utterly crush them. In this crisis, other underground martial art warriors gather to fight by Baki’s side: Kaoru Hanayama, Gouki Shibukawa, Retsu Kaioh, and Doppo Orochi. An epic showdown between violent death row inmates and Baki and his friends begins!

Based on the description, this lines up with how season one ended and what the overall plot of season one was. I would’ve preferred to just have all 26 episodes to consume at once, mostly for the fight scenes. Despite the lack of overall fight scenes at least to me, its good to know that this second season will consist of a lot of action.

I’m also anxious to see where we got with Baki’s father Yujiro. He wasn’t very prominent in the first season but he stood in the shadows and always kept an eye on his son. One can only hope for a showdown between father and son. Even if it just a test of strengths.

BAKI: Part 2 arrives April 30.
