The first Smackdown of 2020 kicks off backstage when The Miz walks up to Daniel Bryan and confronts him about how he has a 2nd chance at defeating The Fiend Bray Wyatt. Says he hopes he defeats The Fiend for everyone’s sake.
Segment: Women’s Champion Bayley and her pal, Sasha Banks, come out to boos from the audience. They trash talk the women’s division, primarily Lacey Evans and mention her daughter. Out comes Lacey Evans with her tag partner, Dana Brooke. Lacey tells Bayley and Sasha that them nasties cant seem to keep her daughter out of their mouths. As they exchange trash talking back and forth, out comes Alexa Bliss and Nikki Cross. Alexa and Nikki both wonder why are they even in this match if all the bickering and fighting is between all of them girls in the ring. Nikki says it doesnt matter, as long as they’re one strp closer to getting a shot back at their WWE tag titles against The Kabuki Warriors.
Match 1: Lacey Evans & Dana Brooke defeat Bayley, Sasha Banks, Alexa Bliss & Nikki Cross in a Triple Threat Match.
Segment: Otis is backstage. Mandy Rose walks up to him and asks him about the holidays and his mom’s cooking. Otis says to ask Dolph Ziggler. Mandy acknowledges that he saw what happened last week. He reveals his Mom saw what Ziggler did to her cake last week and walks away, leaving Mandy distraught.
Segment: Back from commercial break and Elias is in the ring. Elias performs and sings a musical number announcing his official entry into the Royal Rumble Match!
Segment: A earlier video is shown between The Revival (Dash Wilder and Scott Dawson) talking amongst themselves that they are not a joke. That they are top guys and dont belong in no stupid Miracle On 34th Street matches. They each what the heck is a Miracle On 34th Street match anyway? In comes Shorty G/Chad Gable, who couldnt help overhear them and tells them to not let things get to them. Instead, to embrace them, like he did when he was mocked for being small. Things have been looking up for Shorty G, so to speak. The Revival take offense to all that and Wilder challenges Shorty G to a one on one match, which he accepts.
Match 2: Shorty G defeats Dash Wilder. After the match, The Revival regroup and beat down Shorty G but The Celtic Warrior, Sheamus, makes his shocking return and interrupts the beatdown. Sheamus chases them away. Then, out of nowhere, Sheamus takes out Shorty G with a Brogue Kick just as he was getting up! Sheamus stands tall over Shorty G’s body.
Segment: The Miz is backstage and The New Day (Kofi Kingston and Big E), walk up to celebrate the New Year and the 1st Smackdown of 2020 with a platter full of pancakes that spell out ‘2020’. Miz is not amused, but Kofi says to cheer up. It’s a new day, new year and to top it off, reminds Miz that he is the most decorated multi-title holder of the past decade. Which Big E points out, tied only with Kofi. To which Kofi brushes it off saying it’s all about Miz’s achievements. But offers a fist bump to Miz, saying “To more titles in 2020!”. Miz, angrily, tells them it is not about titles! The Fiend violated the sanctity of his home and smacks the pancake platter to the ground, forcing Kofi to get in his face. Big E proceeds to try to calm them down but Kofi and Miz each challenge each other to a match, to which they both accept.
Match 3: Kofi Kingston defeats The Miz. After the match, Miz snaps and attacks Kofi which drew boos and jeers from the crowd. As he walks up ramp and looks back at the crowd, he lashes at them hinting a heel turn.
Segment: Cathy Kelley is backstage with both Daniel Bryan and Roman Reigns, who’ll be tagging later on tonite. Bryan says he will walk out of Royal Rumble as Universal Champion when he beats The Fiend. Roman takes the time to also announce his entry into the Royal Rumble Match and plans to win it. He says it may well be him vs Daniel Bryan for the Universal Title in the main event at Wrestlemania 36!
Segment: Backstage, Kayla Braxton is outside Miz’s dressing room, knocking with hopes in getting a word with him. Suddenly, out comes a returning John Morrison! Morrison is back and says his friend, The Miz, has nothing else to say in regards to attacking Kofi Kingston. He walks back in the dressing room and closes the door!
Segment: Otis comes to the ring and is ringside awaiting his opponent, Drew Gulak. Out comes Drew, who cuts a promo saying a woman like Mandy doesnt have eyes or goes for guys that look like Otis. In the ring, Drew tried to do his PowerPoint Presentation but didn’t get to finish…
Match 4: Otis defeats Drew Gulak in a quick match!
Match 5: Braun Strowman defeats Cesaro (with Shinsuke Nakamura and Sami Zayn). After the match, Shinsuke attacks Braun, while Sami and Cesaro look on and celebrate.
Back from commercial break, and announced for next week: Lacey Evans vs. Sasha Banks!
Match 6: Daniel Bryan & Roman Reigns vs Dolph Ziggler & King Corbin ends in No-Contest after the lights go out and The Fiend appears and attacks Bryan mid-match. After The Fiend lays out Bryan with The Mandible Claw, the lights go out and when they return, he is knocked out and The Fiend disappeared.
At the same time, Corbin & Ziggler were about to embarrass Roman again by handcuffing to the ring and feed him dog food. Suddenly, The Usos theme music plays and out comes a returning Jimmy and Jay Uso to thwart their plans with double doses of superkicks, followed by over-the-top rope splashes, knocking Corbin and Ziggler to the floor. The Usos proceed to save and check up on Roman as the trio embrace as Smackdown goes off the air ▪
