WWE superstar Becky Lynch makes a shocking revelation, while Asuka makes history!
Tonight’s Monday Night RAW opened up with a video package of Money in the Bank. The show kicked off with The Man and RAW Women’s Champion Becky Lynch to make a huge announcement. Becky walked out without her belt around her waist but instead was holding Asuka’s Money in the Bank briefcase. Asuka then came to the ring to interrupt Becky as she was making what seem to be a really emotional and heartfelt speech. The Man revealed that she was going to have to go away for a while.
She told Asuka that the briefcase she won at MITB was not for an opportunity to face her for the RAW Women’s Championship, but in fact, the briefcase inside contained the RAW Women’s Title, thus crowning Asuka as the new RAW Women’s Champion and ending Becky’s reign as champion at 399 days. The longest-reigning Women’s Champion in WWE history. Becky then told Asuka “you’re the champion, you go be a warrior….I’m going to go be a mother”. Talk about BREAKING NEWS!! Becky Lynch announced on live tv that she was pregnant. Asuka embraces Becky Lynch and hugs her celebrating not only her new title but celebrates that her fellow colleague is expecting a child.
For those of you who don’t know Becky Lynch is engaged to WWE superstar the Monday Night RAW messiah himself Seth Rollins. Immediately following the announcement Becky is met backstage by some of the WWE superstars showing their love and support. The news circled fast as it made headlines all over social media. Superstars and fans took to Twitter to congratulate both Becky and Rollins. What a way to kick off Monday Night RAW after an exciting Money in the Bank PPV.
After becoming RAW Women’s Champion Asuka was now a WWE Grand Slam Champion. She has won the RAW Women’s Title, the Smackdown Women’s Title, the Women’s Tag Team Titles, and the NXT Women’s Title. Asuka is also a winner of the Royal Rumble and now a former Money in the Bank winner. What an impressive career for Asuka in just a short amount of time with the company.
In other news, the Rated R Superstar and WWE Hall of Famer Edge made his return to Monday Night RAW. It was the first appearance for Edge since his brutal and physical Last Man Standing match against The Viper Randy Orton at Wrestlemania. Edge said he wasn’t ready to call it quits yet and that Wrestlemania was really jus true beginning in his comeback. He asked, “so what’s next?” before Orton interrupted him and came to the ring. Orton stared him down, walked up to Edge’s face and told him “congratulations” and then left the ring.
Just when you thought we were seeing a different side of The Viper, he turns back and gets in the ring to tell Edge “he just can’t do it”. Orton went on to say how he tried to be the bigger man and walk away but he can’t. He said the “better man won at Wrestlemania, but not the better wrestler”. He then challenged Edge to a good ole fashion 1 on 1 wrestling match at next month’s PPV Backslash. Charly Caruso asked Edge if he was going to accept the challenge but Edge was left speechless and pondering as the show went off the air.
Becky Lynch announcing her pregnancy was the highlight of the night and pretty much the rest of the week. After the announcement Becky had this to say to the WWE universe via her Twitter:
I’m sure Smackdown will touch upon it again this Friday as fans all around the world are still processing the news. All we know is that this is a time to celebrate life. We at The Nerdy Basement wish Becky and Seth nothing but the best as they embark on this new chapter in their lives.
Despite the great news for both Becky and Asuka, it seems like we were left with more questions than answers after last night. What’s going to happen to the Women’s Divison now that Becky Lynch is no longer there and Asuka is the new champion? Who’s going to be Asuka’s first title defense? Is Edge going to answer Randy Orton’s challenge? What’s next for WWE Champion Drew McIntyre after successfully defending his belt against Seth Rollins? Does Rollins even know he’s going to be a dad? I’m sure we’ll get the answer to all those questions and more in the following weeks to come.
Make sure to tune in to Friday night smackdown this Friday for more fallout from Money in the Bank. And for more WWE news and coverage, make sure to keep it locked right here at The Nerdy Basement.
