Hasbro has released images of their upcoming wave of Marvel Legends Series 6-inch action figures based on the new Black Widow movie starring Scarlett Johansson. Hasbro’s marketing and description of these action figures are listed as”in celebration” of and “inspired by” the highly anticipated movie, scheduled to hit theaters May 2020.
The Hasbro Legends toy lines, as in the past, has always tied their figures to movies. In most cases, these figures come straight out of their respective film, usually identified by the packaging. In other instances, the line will tend to just add characters reimagined or reinterpreted as if they’re part of the that seem like they’d be part of the film.
The Black Widow series line indicate that the set of figures will include the titular Black Widow, her counterpart Yelena Belova, Red Guardian and antagonist Taskmaster. As noted above, these characters are clearly reinterpretations based on the comic book versions. For example, Red Guardian looks a lot younger and slimmer than actor David Harbour as seen in the trailer. Same for Taskmaster, who has a sleek, body-armored costume, different than his classic retro one.
Added to the line are some interesting wildcard characters. Some of whom have or had ties with Black Widow throughout her comic adventures. Some of these include Winter Soldier, Crossbones and Spymaster.
The big surprise out of this whole line is the obligatory but surprising ‘Build-A-Figure’ character that has been part of the line for quite some time. This time around, it’s supervillain Crimson Dynamo, who has that distinction. Each figure in the line includes certain body parts. Also, something to bear in mind: Dynamo’s parts are included in both the movie figures and the ‘inspired by’ figures.
Each figure comes detailed with their respective actor and character likeness. As other lines, the figures come with multiple points of articulation, interchangeable hands and tons of accessories in the form of weapons.
Absent from the line is actress Rachel Weiz‘s character, “Melina“, as she is listed in production notes, as part of the Black Widow program. Her character does imply that Weiz may portray Melina Vostokoff, a character mostly known in comics as the supervillain Iron Maiden, as well as a member of Thunderbolts.
There is no official word on whether Crimson Dynamo will be a part of the film. Same goes with Winter Soldier, Crossbones, and Spymaster and whether they will have a role in the film — but Marvel may surprise us!
All figures (except Crimson Dynamo) retail for $19.99. They are scheduled to hit stores this Spring ▪
