HBO Max is developing a spin-off series based on Matt Reeves’ “The Batman” which will center around The Penguin Variety had reported. Colin Farrell is set to play The Penguin in the film and has been approached to star in the upcoming series but no deals have yet been set in place. Lauren LeFranc (“Chuck”, “Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.”) will reportedly write the script for the series.
According to Variety’s report, the series will delve into The Penguin’s rise to power in Gotham City’s criminal underworld. Matt Reeves who is the director of “The Batman” will executive produce the series alongside “The Batman” producer Dylan Clark under their 6th & Idaho and Dylan Clark Productions banner respectively. WBTV will also produce the series.
If all goes well with the development of this series, “The Penguin” will mark the second series to spin out of Matt Reeves’ “The Batman” which already has a spin-off series set within the Gotham City Police Department. In addition to expanding and interconnecting Matt Reeves’ Batman universe across WarnerMedia’s various platforms. Other DC projects in development include “Peacemaker” starring John Cena, “Justice League Dark” from J.J. Abrams, and “Green Lantern” from Greg Berlanti.
Matt Reeves’ “The Batman” is due out early next year, March 2022, and stars Robert Pattinson as Bruce Wayne/Batman, Zoe Kravitz as Selina Kyle/Catwoman, Jeffrey Wright as Commissioner Gordon, Paul Dano as The Riddler, and Andy Serkis as Alfred Pennyworth.
