Naomi Episode 3 Review The Nerdy Basement

Naomi Episode 3 – Zero to Sixty (Recap/Review)

**THIS ARTICLE CONTAINS SPOILER FOR EPISODE 3 OF NAOMI**

It’s safe to say that we’re finally starting to get somewhere in the latest episode of ‘Naomi’. Naomi continues her training with Dee, but only in small baby steps. It’s at this moment, Naomi begins to grow impatient. Naomi’s parents are excited for College Day, a little more than Naomi herself, who’s continuing in her mission to further uncover the mystery behind her otherworldly origins. Naomi and Annabelle hinge a plan to take back the disk from Zumbado after he confiscated it from her in last week’s episode. After acquiring the disk from Zumbado, while trying to analyze it during a college visit, the disk explodes.

Naomi seeks Dee’s help about the disk, but Dee knows nothing, but knows someone who could help. Dee takes her to an old comrade of his named, Adam Blake. Adam fought alongside Dee in the past and has the ability to tamper with energy. Adam taps into Naomi’s powers, revealing that the disk that she stole was actually a fake one and that the real one is still with Zumbado. Not only that, but the disk is somehow connected to Naomi. Suddenly, the military attacks them, but Dee and Naomi escape just in time.

Noticing a change in her behavior in the last few days, and with the commotion she was involved in during the college visit, Naomi’s parents confront her and take away her phone. During the confrontation, Naomi questions the change in their treatment of her. Her dad hints that there are dangerous things happening in town, but fails to give further details. After being sent to her room, Naomi’s friend Akira appears and helps her find a translation key that could help her figure out her origins. Naomi sneaks out to find the translation key and runs into Annabelle in the process.

The duo locates the translation key, but it’s stuck under debris. Naomi then uses her powers to remove the debris and get the translation key, but is unsuccessful. In the attempt, she nearly kills herself and Annabelle. Before barely making it out, Naomi manages to make out some of the translation and then heads back home. The next day, Naomi apologizes for her recent actions and assures her parents that she needs them.

As she prepares to reveal what she’s been up to, her parents have a secret of their own. Naomi’s dad reveals to her that the military has been hunting aliens and that’s why they’ve become immensely protective over her whereabouts. To add onto all the revelations, Naomi’s parents take her to the place in the woods where they found her. When Naomi touches the platform, it starts to glow, showing the same markings as the disk.

This episode finally starts to get us somewhere in the series. The characters are finally starting to cough up some information in regards to Naomi. While it has been frustrating for this series because it makes you want more, it’s good that we’re finally starting to get somewhere. It seems like the team behind this wants to feed us a little bit here, and then a little bit there. As all of the previous episodes, this was a well-shot episode. It has the CW quality as much as Superman & Lois, The Flash, and Supergirl, but the story seems like it needed to be in a 2 hour film, as opposed to a 9 episode, 45 minute T.V. show.

Like Naomi in this show, it was almost contagious to become impatient and want to know all the secrets and to get into the real action. It’s not good to be impatient and this show tells you, “You’re going to wait to get this and you’re going to love it!” While we viewers want all the necessary information at a certain point in time, we’re going to have to be patient. You know, to build investment and excitement for what’s to come in the near future.

Kaci Walfall is great as Naomi! She brings this level of excitement and sense of brightness in this character. Walfall is definitely the highlight of this show and she carries it wonderfully. Every other character seems to be one dimensional and only serves the same purpose in every single outing. Hopefully, things will improve with this show. It shows promise, but the same formula we’ve been seeing gets fed to us in different ways. We’ll just have to see what comes next.
