The saying goes “expect the unexpected”, and while this was probably expected by many. It was unexpected by many more. And just as quick as Thanos snapped his fingers in Avengers: Infinity War. Cloak and Dagger were snapped out of existence after two very successful seasons. While many might disagree with what I just said due to low ratings and viewership. Cloak and Dagger were still successful. Successful enough to garnish a long-awaited crossover with The Runaways. Something long-time fans of both shows were anxious to see happen since season one of both shows respectively.
The news broke just a day ago. The official cancellation of Marvel’s Cloak and Dagger alas Freeform. While many fans are seeing past the veil, due to the big power moves happening behind the scenes at Marvel. Many fans weren’t. I won’t recap the news all over again, you can read up on that right here, and here. Despite all that fans were eager to see what was to come with the crossover and the now teased Season 3 for Cloak and Dagger that is no longer seeing the day of light.
Cloak and Dagger writer Joe Pokaski took to Twitter to air out his feelings regarding the show’s sudden cancellation.
This was the first pilot I’d ever written, i was very green, and I put my heart into it, and then it was put in a drawer. When I got the call five years later that they wanted to make it, I wasn’t surprised. Because you can’t keep Tandy and Tyrone in a drawer.

This time around, there was no reason to pull punches. We found a force of nature director like @gpbmadeit to help tell this coming of age story that put #Marvel characters and situations on the screen that didn’t look like what we had seen before.

They were but two of a troupe of amazing actors, heroes and villains, and sometimes both (I’m looking at you, @emmaklahana ) who brought their own truth to our fiction and pulled me into stories I knew were made up.

We put together the best crew in television. The amount of art, sweat, and tears poured into every frame, with a limited amount of resources, and a dedication to diversity and justice. We did the impossible. And became a family and I hope we remain as such.

Most importantly, we had a strong group of fans picking up what we were putting down. Who took conversations about privilege out of our church and into their lives. Who knew what it meant when we put a man in a refrigerator.

There is no human better at second-guessing himself than me, I swear. And while my imagination is active, I can’t think of what I would have done different with this great power and great responsibility in our corner of the Marvel Universe. I’m so proud of what we got to do.

…because you can’t keep Tandy & Tyrone in a drawer.

Exactly what Joe said, “you can’t keep Tandy & Tyrone in a drawer”. During the NYCC Runaways panel Jeph Loeb and Allegra Acosta (Molly Hernandez) both teased big things for Tandy & Tyrone during The Runaways Season 3. While both parties interjected at the right time to avoid revealing any big spoilers. We can speculate that Cloak and Dagger will appear more than once during the entirety of this season. Loeb did confirm that Tyrone and Tandy’s appearance in this season of The Runaways would be integrated into the story. This was not just “fan service”.
The main cast of Cloak and Dagger, starting with Olivia Holt (Dagger) took to Instagram to air their grievances and reflect on the good times they had during their tenure on the series. Aubrey Joseph (Cloak), Emma Lahana (Mayhem), and Ally Maki followed suit and said the following in their statements.

Its always sad to see a great cast of actors get their hit series cancelled just when they’re hitting their stride and doing bigger things. The cast truly great and while majority of the Marvel TV shows weren’t directly connected to the movie side of the MCU (Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. I know….). Cloak and Dagger found themselves having direct ties to Luke Cage. By now we all know that all of those shows are cancelled, and while these characters will appear again down the line. It probably won’t be the same cast. They’ll probably appear in a Disney+ series or an MCU film, or BOTH! Time will tell.
