Batwoman Season 2: Everything We Know So Far

Ruby Rose’s exit from the role of Batwoman shocked the world! With new rumors and reports circling the web, we have compiled what’s true and what isn’t.

The official second season of Batwoman has been a really hot topic as of late, especially after lead star Ruby Rose exited the series due to personal unpleasantness. Rose found herself having a hard time adjusting to the high work demand of being a television series lead, while also finding it had to adjust to her new life in Vancouver.

Back in January, The CW renewed Batwoman for a second season. Just a few days after season one came to an official conclusion, Ruby Rose’s exit was officially announced, along with the news that she would be recast for the upcoming season. Last week the news that a new character, currently named Ryan Wilder would be donning the mantle of Batwoman made the rounds. That news was followed by the possibility that a woman of color would be playing Ryan Wilder and taking up the mantle of Batwoman.

A report from The Cinema Spot revealed that The CW is currently eyeing Riverdale’s Vanessa Morgan to replace Ruby Rose in the series. While Batwoman showrunner Caroline Dries hasn’t confirmed Vanessa Morgan as the possible new Batwoman, she did go on to confirm that a new character will be appearing in the upcoming series to take up the mantle.

I’m inventing a whole new character. In her past, she was inspired by Batwoman. She is going to take on the mantle and is completely maybe not be the right person at the time to be doing it. That’s what makes it fun.

Now there are a couple of new rumors that have been making the rounds on the internet and social media. The Direct has reported that Jonathan Crane aka Scarecrow would be introduced in Batwoman Season 2 and will be responsible for the death of Ryan Wilder’s mother, thus giving her the motivation to become Batwoman. At the time of this writing, this specific rumor has neither been confirmed nor denied.

The Direct also reported in this same report that Kate Kane would be killed off in the series and that Ryan Wilder would steal Kate Kane’s costume in order to hunt down Scarecrow and seek revenge for the death of her mother. Once again, Scarecrow’s appearance in the upcoming season has neither been confirmed nor denied, instead, the rumor of Kate Kane being killed off in season two has officially been debunked by the series showrunner Caroline Dries:

“As a lesbian who’s been working as a writer for the past fifteen years, I’m well aware of the ‘Bury Your Gays’ trope and I have no interest in participating in it,” said Dried on Twitter.

“That’s why it’s important to me as the showrunner to clarify any misinformation out there about Kate Kane and recasting Batwoman. Like you, I love Kate Kane – she’s the reason I wanted to do the show. We’ll never erase her. In fact, her disappearance will be one of the mysteries of season two. I don’t want to give away any of our surprises, but to all our devoted fans, please know that LGBTQ+ justice is at the very core of what Batwoman is and we have no intention of abandoning that.” Dries added.

While overall plot details regarding the second season of Batwoman are scarce at the moment, we wanted to roundup all of the latest news and rumors and clarify with everyone what’s true and what isn’t and what’s yet to be confirmed. While all of The CW’s shows have ended early due to COVID_19, they are all expected to return in 2021.
