The live-action Zatanna solo film has found its writer in Promising Young Woman director Emerald Fennell
The newly Oscar-Nominated director Emerald Fennell has been tapped by Warner Bros. to write the upcoming live-action Zatanna solo film. Emerald Fennell recently made her directorial debut with Promising Young Woman which has created a massive amount of buzz earning her and the film as a whole a total of five Oscars nominations.
Alongside Wonder Woman, the upcoming Zatanna solo film will be the second female-led film for Warner Bros. and DC Films. Warner Bros. and DC Films have yet to cast Zatanna for the film. Warner Bros. has been making a push to bring more female superheroes to the forefront which all started with Gal Gadot’s casting as Wonder Woman when she made her debut in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.
The Gal Gadot led Wonder Woman solo film garnered massive success which earned it a sequel and most recently a third solo film to complete the trilogy, with director Patty Jenkins set to direct. Recently the studio has cast Sasha Calle as Supergirl in the upcoming Flash solo film directed by Andy Muschietti. The Flash will also see Maribel Verdu portray the Scarlet Speedster’s beloved mother Nora Allen.
The Zatanna solo film will be distributed by Warner Bros./DC Films with J.J. Abrams’ Bad Robot production company set to produce the film.
