Production on Shang-Chi has been revving up. With a director attached to the film, casting for lead and supporting roles are now in full effect. According to a new report from We Got This Covered, a close source to them has revealed to them, that Marvel Studios is eyeing former star of AMC’s The Walking Dead, Steven Yeun for the titular role of Shang-Chi.
Steven Yeun became a star for his role as Glenn Rhee in AMC’s live action adaption of Robert Kirkman’s famous ongoing comic, The Walking Dead. Yeun is still currently on the rise and landing some roles on the big screen since exiting The Walking Dead (Negan, we still don’t forgive you). Knowing how Marvel likes to cast both unknown actors & up and coming actors for their cinematic universe. Casting Yeun would be ideal.
We Got This Covered is also reporting that former Inhumans actor Mike Moh is also being eyed for the titular role of Shang-Chi.
Mike Moh is currently starring in Quentin Tarantino’s Once Upon a Time in Hollywood as the iconic Bruce Lee.
It’ll be interesting to see who lands the role is this report is said to be true. I’ve already seen some minor backlash to the possibility of Steven Yeun landing the role due to him being Korean and not Chinese. As Shang-Chi is Chinese in the comics. Looking at Mike Moh and his current role as Bruce Lee, who ironically enough is the person Shang-Chi is modeled after. Having Mike Moh follow up his role as Bruce Lee to Shang-Chi would be a rather easy transition.
