James Gunn is back in the MCU to write and direct the next installment of the Guardians of The Galaxy franchise. Between the past 8 months up until last week, James Gunn’s future as a director were pretty unclear. That was, until he was hired by Warner Bros. to write and direct a new version of a live action Suicide Squad film, titled “The Suicide Squad”.
According to a new report by We Got This Covered. James Gunn is due back to the MCU in 2021 to start filming GOTG Vol. 3 — why so long you might ask? Well, Gunn’s priority right now is DC Film’s The Suicide Squad. Marvel Studios and company along with Warner Bros. agreed on the terms that Gunn would first direct their film prior to returning to the MCU.
With production starting early 2021. We are possibly looking at a 2022-2023 release year for Guardians of The Galaxy Vol. 3, while that is a long’s way out. We’ll be preoccupied with other films from Marvel Studios, Wonder Woman 1984 which releases in 2020, The Batman which releases in 2021 alongside Gunn’s “The Suicide Squad” and following it up that year is Aquaman 2.
