Lionsgate shifts dates around for John Wick: Chapter 4, the SAW reboot, Spiral, Hitman’s Wife’s Bodyguard and more in a massive production delay shake-up.
Due to the current COVID_19 pandemic that has taken the world by storm causing a massive wave of production delays, thus causing a hefty slew of delayed release dates. Lionsgate has announced new dates for John Wick: Chapter 4, which will now release May 27, 2022. The Hitman’s Wife’s Bodyguard has been pushed back to August 20, 2021.
The upcoming SAW reboot, starring Chris Rock has been delayed an entire year and will now release on May 21, 2021. The film was originally slated to release May 21 of this year. Lionsgate’s horror-film Antebellum was rescheduled and will release on August 21st, that’s if this pandemic is truly over by mid-summer.
Additionally, Lionsgate has announced new release dates for The Asset, an assassin film starring Michael Keaton and Maggie Q; that film will open on April 23, 2021. Barb and Star Go to Vista Del Mar starring Kristen Wiig is set to release on July 16, 2021. American Underdog: The Kurt Warner Story has been set for Dec. 10, 2021.
Lionsgate is the latest film studio to rearrange their entire film slate. Other film studios like Warner Bros. and Universal have delayed their biggest films while releasing what many would consider smaller films like Trolls and Scoob! straight to consumers. A decision that has caused some issues between AMC and Universal specifically (you can read more about that here).
