It looks like Warner Bros. is not giving up on the Green Lantern Corps feature film just yet. According to a new report by Variety, the Green Lantern Corps film is still a high priority for WB, with Geoff Johns slated to turn in a script for the film by the end of this year.
Variety also reveals that Warner Bros. is looking to pitch the film to director J.J. Abrams and his production company Bad Robot to see if the company would be interested in producing the feature film. If we go back about a month or so ago, HBO Max revealed that Greg Berlanti is developing a live-action Green Lantern inspired series for the forthcoming streaming service alongside Geoff Johns. According to today’s report, this working relationship between Johns and Berlanti could potentially lead to Berlanti also working on the Green Lantern Corps film.
The Green Lantern Corps film was originally slated to release next year but after the critical demise of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, and the combined demised of Justice League, both critically and financially. Films like The Flash, Green Lantern Corps, and Cyborg were silently canned. WB/DC Films is currently 3 for 3 with their latest releases with 2 out of the 3 grossing over $1B at the global box office. Maybe this newfound success has reinvigorated interest and hopes for the studio at a potential box office success with the Emerald Knight(s).
