Deadpool 3: Kevin Feige Confirms It Will Take Place In The MCU and Will Be R-Rated

The Confirmation We All Wanted and Needed Is Here! Deadpool Is Officially Part of the MCU and Will Keep His R Rating!

It’s been a few years since Disney acquired 20th Century Fox and all of its assets. In the process, Marvel gained back the rights to the franchises like the X-Men, the Fantastic Four, and the Merc with a Mouth, Deadpool. During a press day event for WandaVision, Collider spoke with Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige about the upcoming series and also got some new juicy and exciting details regarding Ryan Reynolds as Deadpool and the status of Deadpool 3 and it’s place in the MCU.

Deadpool

“It will be rated R and we are working on a script right now, and Ryan’s overseeing a script right now… It will not be [filming] this year. Ryan is a very busy, very successful actor. We’ve got a number of things we’ve already announced that we now have to make, but it’s exciting for it to have begun. Again, a very different type of character in the MCU, and Ryan is a force of nature, which is just awesome to see him bring that character to life.”

Seeing that Deadpool and its threequel will now be part of the MCU both officially and canonically, what’s more, exciting is that Marvel Studios will be keeping Deadpool R-Rated. One of the things many, many fans were concerned about was Marvel/Disney censoring the Merch with the Mouth for his use of foul language, explicit jokes, and raunchy fourth wall breaking dialogue. While rightfully concerned, many, many outlets, fan sites, pages, and blogs tried to convince fans that Marvel demoting Deadpool to a PG-13 film would be detrimental.

Now, Deadpool doesn’t NEED to be R-Rated in order for it to succeed, however, having the film with an R-rating allows it to do some things that are otherwise not possible with a PG-13 rating. Not only that, but it also opens up the possibility for other MCU/Marvel characters to be brought to the big screen with an R-Rating so Marvel can tell a much darker and more mature story if and when they need to do so. This is a huge win not only for Deadpool but also for the MCU as a whole going forward.

While things for Deadpool are now set in motion. Feige is in no rush to get Deadpool off the ground and onto a big screen as both Ryan Reynolds and Marvel Studios have their hands abundantly full at the moment. Reynolds has a list of projects to take care of and Marvel will be busy with Doctor Strange 2, Black Panther, Captain Marvel, and all projects that are currently in development for Disney+.
