Marvel Studios has officially green lit development on Captain Marvel 2 with WandaVision writer Megan McDonnell.
Directing duo Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck who wrote and directed the first Captain Marvel film will not be returning for the upcoming sequel. However, they will remain within Marvel Studios to direct a Disney+ series, while Marvel Studios searches for a female director to helm the sequel.
While plot detail won’t be made public for quite sometime, Captain Marvel 2 will take place in present day MCU and is aiming to release sometime in 2022.
