“Cannon Arm and the Arcade Quest” Review: A Fun and Unique Video Game Documentary


Cannon Arm and the Arcade Quest is a Danish Documentary that follows the story of a local arcade Legend Kim “Cannon Arm” who is well known for his love for the 1983 arcade game GYRUSS, which he played for 50 hours straight on a single quarter and holds the world record for. Their local gaming and arcade center is soon to be upgraded and before it gets upgraded, Kim wants to break his own world record and wants to play GYRUSS for 100 hundred hours straight on a single quarter without a break. What follows next is how Kim and his friends come together for one last epic gaming moment.

The first half of the documentary is spent by introducing us to this amazing gang of gamer friends and giving us insight into their lives and diving into how insane and dangerous this task they are embarking on truly is. They consult with doctors to figure out what happens if you stare at the screen for overly prolonged hours and the documentary makes sure to bring us the audience fully on board as well.

In between all of this, we get a first-hand experience at the bond between Kim and his gang of friends and the games they play. “Cannon Arm and the Arcade Quest” gives us a brief insight into some gaming history and builds all the necessary tension required for us the viewer to also be engaged while watching Kim and his friend attempt to break this personal record. The documentary builds and crafts the emotional moments so very well, the intense friendship and the display of their gaming skills, it lets you feel and adore this little group of friends.
