This biggest awards show of the year is fast approaching and today, actors Jack Quaid and Zazie Beetz announced the full list of nominees for the 96th Oscars. Leading in nominations is Christopher Nolan’s ‘Oppenheimer’ with a whopping 13 nominations including Best Picture. This year also marks the first time that actor Cillian Murphy is nominated for an Oscar for his role in ‘Oppenheimer’.
Nolan’s latest outing does have some stiff competition, not too far behind is the Emma Stone and Willem Dafoe-led ‘Poor Things’. Not only is the film nominated for Best Picture, Emma Stone is also nominated for Best Performance by Actor in a Lead Role. ‘Poor Things’ heads into this year’s Oscars with a total of 11 nominations.
The Margot Robbie-led ‘Barbie’ film has earned an unprecedented amount of praise when it comes to a film based on a toy. Not only has the film won an award for Cinematic Box Office Achievement, but the film has also been nominated for Best Picture. It won’t be an easy feat if ‘Barbie’ does win Best Picture, it is going up against juggernauts like ‘Oppenheimer’, ‘Poor Things’, and ‘Killers of the Flower Moon’. While Barbie’s list of nominations is minor compared to ‘Oppenheimer’ and ‘Poor Things’ it is one of the top films of 2023 along with the likes of ‘The Holdovers, and ‘American Fiction’, among others.
Needless to say, this year’s Academy Award ceremony will be an interesting one. Will ‘Oppenheimer’ win it all? We’ll have to wait and see when the Oscars airs live on Sunday, March 10th. In the meantime, check out the full list of Oscar nominees below.
