Blizzard’s award-winning, first-person shooter multiplayer game Overwatch first arrived on the scene back in 2016 and instantly became a massive hit. Garnishing a fanbase consisting of millions of gamers across the world. Blizzcon 2019 opened Day One of their convention in the best way Blizzard can. With not one, but two huge announcements. One of those being the heavily rumored Overwatch 2.
While we are sure you’ve seen the 8-minute announcement cinematic trailer, the gameplay trailer, and the Overwatch: The Story So Far cinematic, we’ll provide those below as you read along, just in case you haven’t come across them.
Let’s begin with Overwatch: The Story So Far….
In this cinematic trailer players are brought up to speed on the lore in the world of Overwatch. If you are a player of Overwatch then you know that by the start of the game, Overwatch has been disbanded. A group of heroes, now considered criminals after the first Omnic Crisis. Now that Overwatch has been shut down. A second Omnic Crisis has risen and the world is in dire need of saving. Winston heeds the call and reinitiates Overwatch…albeit, against the law.

With the official announcement of Overwatch 2. Blizzard gives us, the players, even more exposition into the world and lore of Overwatch, in the form of a brand new cinematic trailer…
This all-new cinematic gives us a brand new look and feel to the world of Overwatch. New skins for Mercy, Winston, Reinhardt, Mei, Tracer, Genji and Brigitte. The trailer also offers up a brand new look at the new Overwatch hero Echo. Who was first seen during the McCree story cinematic trailer.
After defeating Talon’s mechs. We are given the confirmation that Overwatch is officially back together. The question though, is how will Overwatch operate in a world where they are still seen as criminals? Will the world’s governments be against Overwatch fulfilling their heroic duties while defeating the likes of Talon? All that remains to be seen.
The reveals don’t stop there. As seen in the official gameplay trailer, we are introduced to another Overwatch hero making their debut in Overwatch 2,Sojourn.
Sojourn is an Overwatch Captain holding deep ties to the King’s Row Uprising storyline. A time-limited event that was made available to players in the first Overwatch game. In that event, Overwatch is tasked with capturing Doomfist’s accountant Maximilien. Overwatch does so successfully, with the guidance of Sojourn via team radio. You can catch Sojourn in action in the gameplay trailer above.
The trailer also gives us new map locations, new story missions, new hero missions, abilities and more.

NEW GAME MODE: PUSH
In Push, a new, symmetrical map type that will launch with Overwatch 2, teams battle to take control of a robot that begins in a central location, then push it toward the enemy base. Either team may take control of the robot at any time. The team that pushes the robot furthest onto the enemy side wins the game.
As mentioned above and in the trailer, Overwatch 2 is bringing in story missions. During these story missions you and your team will have to fight back against Null Sector and the elite forces of Talon, among other enemies, to reveal the motives behind the reignited Omnic attacks. Each and every faction within the game is different and will offer players unique challenges. Forcing players to adapt and change their approach in order to claim victory. Players can also participate in re-playable Hero Missions. These Hero Missions pits players in difference scenarios with a range of diverse and dangerous enemies. Granting players the chance to level up their characters to unlock new items and new abilities.
Players who are concerned with losing their current Overwatch progress, skins, emotes and more don’t need to worry, as all of your Overwatch progress and earned loot will all be carried over to Overwatch 2. Current Overwatch playerswill also be able to cross-play with Overwatch 2 players when the game launches. As well as play with Overwatch 2 heroes and Overwatch 2 maps.
Blizzard also revealed that Overwatch 2 will be available for all platforms. That includes, Playstation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC.
