Thor and Loki: Double Trouble

Thor and Loki: Double Trouble #1 Review

In Thor and Loki: Double Trouble #1, Thor and Loki are forced to work together. They steal a famous artifact from the father’s vault. No pun intended, but this is going to cause the pair some trouble.

In Thor and Loki: Double Trouble, the Gods try to one-up one another. This issue will have you laugh your behind off. After going off about who is the best, they work together. This mission sees the brothers take the Lur of Luramena from Odin’s vault. They successful, but Loki makes a grave mistake. Let’s see what happens in this story.

Thor starts the issue with a narration of how beautiful Asgard is. He then gloats about how he is the powerful, God of Thunder. Citizens of Asgard are cheering giving their love to Odinson. He is even given an apple by one of the nice people. However, Loki rains on his parade. He sarcastically claps for his brother and takes his spotlight.

Thor just wants to enjoy his apple and the love of the spectators. Yet, Loki steals the attention and apple from Thor. The God of Mischief turns into a horse to afford getting beat up by his brother. People are in love with Loki’s antics, and so am I! He turns back after Thor is able to get his hands on him. Loki threatens to turn in a snake and attack Thor. Thor then retaliates by threatening to barbecue Loki.

The two then realize their townfolk are gone. Loki finishes the apple before telling Thor why he needed him. Thor ignores Loki and thinks it is one of his challenges. He even brings up a race the two had, a few days ago. The result was Loki winning after making Thor believe that he was a rock. The God of Mischief asks to take the Lur from Odin’s collection.

It looks as if Thor is not interested. His brother shows him that this is easy. Loki continues to taunt Thor for not being man enough to go through with it. Thor then agrees and goes to their father’s vault. In a red cloak, Thor sneaks in and takes the Lur. However, he is spotted and runs with the artifact. Turns out, Loki was the one to rat out his brother disguised as a guard.

Thor flies out of the vault with both Lur and Mjølnir in hand. As he’s in the air, Loki distracts him. This distraction leads to Thor falling into the water. Now angry, Thor hands the Lur to Loki. The God of Mischief wastes no time by playing the mystical instrument. Almost immediately, the brothers are introduced to the Midgard Serpent’s sister, Mildred. Even madder, Thor grabs Loki before he can vanish. He tells them that they both have to stop the beast.

Reading Thor and Loki: Double Trouble made me feel like I was watching Thor: Ragnarok. Yes, it was that good! Mariko Tamaki did an excellent job with this story. I felt that the story was directed mostly towards children. However, I also believe that adults can enjoy bickering between two Gods. I love every second of the issue. Coincidentally, one of my favorite parts was the “snake reference” from Thor’s third film. This is lived up to its name. It should get you excited for the next one. I know I am!

As for art, Gurihiru did a very good job too. I liked the cartoon feel in the issue. It almost made sense to go with that art style. Even with the style being prominent, details are present. I enjoyed all the panels. However, I believe Mildred’s introduction stood out the most. Also, Asgard’s introduction. I love looking at that palace!
