Peter Parker, Harry Osborn, and Mary Jane have a family dinner that ends with Norman’s interference. Is Wilson Fisk is helping Norman to take down Harry?!
After dealing with Sin-Eater and Green Goblin, Spider-Man and his Spider-Friends are now facing off against Kindred. It turns out that Harry Osborn is back and is behind the Kindred persona. Harry wants his ex-best friend to suffer for committing “sins”. He does so by killing Peter over and over. He also tortures the members of his friends, who now go by the “Order of the Web”. Right now, Harry is bringing Mary Jane into this. This is the next stage in Kindred’s plan.
Kindred continues to torment Peter, as the team is unconscious. Harry accuses Peter of being selfish. The reason is that some of the team members are kids. I am surprised no one has given Batman this talk. Anyways, Peter disparately asks Harry to leave it between them. Yet, Harry still blames Peter for everyone he has ever known dying. After Harry’s cruel words, he offers dinner to everyone. All of a sudden, Spider-Gwen asks Harry to just kill them.
Harry knows that Peter is worried about MJ, who is on her way. She was invited by the villainous creature. Peter begs for MJ to leave, but she walks into the abandoned mansion. Both she and Harry stand face to face, she isn’t freaked out in the slightest. As the two continue their talk, Peter breaks free from his shackles. He punches, grabs, and webs Harry. However, Harry grabs Peter by the face and puts hundreds of centipedes on his face. MJ asks for Harry to stop and for them to have dinner. She then tells Peter to grab a seat.
In the graveyard, Norman is outside the large house. It looks as if MJ is also working with Spider-Man’s foes. As the trio and team have dinner, Harry brings up the past. He talks about how he and MJ’s relationship failed. He blames Peter for it after he and Gwen broke up. Then, the heated conversation sees Harry and Peter talking about Norman. Peter explains that he didn’t reveal Norman’s identity because he wanted to protect his friend. Harry sees right through Petter and throws a fit. Harry then references the original Gwen’s death.
As Norman runs in, Harry attacks the Order of the Web again. Peter once again asks for him to spare his team and take him. He says that Harry he knew would let go of what made him mad. He also says the Kindred was Harry’s choice. This makes Harry freak out even more and attack Peter once more. As he’s about to kill Peter again, MJ interferes without any type of fear. She offers herself to save Peter and his team. MJ even believes that Harry won’t hurt her, even with everything that happened prior.
As Harry is about to kill MJ, Norman arrives. They throw verbal jabs at one another. Norman throws a pumpkin bomb at MJ. She is knocked out and Harry is even madder. As the two fight, Kingpin destroys the mansion. Peter runs over to MJ. She is fine, ensuring Peter it will take more for her to be killed. The issue ends with the two sharing a kiss.
Nick Spencer’s storytelling is awesome! He makes Kindred an even bigger threat. Instead of just killing them and being done with it, the antagonist wants dinner. Yet, he wants Peter to suffer as they eat. He does this by bringing up past events that Peter wasn’t even responsible for. More proof of Spencer’s nice work is how he wrote MJ’s role.
She is seen as the damsel and distress. She is more than that here. MJ walks in like she owns the place. By doing this, she stands up to this ugly being she once called her friend. The woman even takes a pumpkin bomb from up close. Not only did she survive, but she told Peter that she was basically stronger than ever. MJ is absolutely badass!
The duo of Patrick Gleason and Edgar Delgado also deserve credit. The artists continue to wow the audience with their visual storytelling. The details of Kindred and his hideout are great to look at. This is especially true when it came to Kindred’s centipedes. MJ looking pretty in a scary setting continued enhancing her mental strength. The panels featuring fights are always on point. There is nothing, but greatness for both story and visuals.
