REVIEW: PETER PORKER THE SPECTACULAR SPIDER-HAM

Marvel has hit another home run with the Anthropomorphic Spectacular Spider-Ham!! The story, written by Zeb Wells with art by Will Robson, starts with the brief origin of how a lowly spider becomes Earth-8311’s friendly neighborhood hero. Zeb Wells really captures the essence of our Hamtastic hero in all his glory. Peter Porker is the perfect blend of attention hog, (pun totally intended) and crimefighter. This hilarious issue follows our hero and his Avengers cohorts as they try and stop a dimension wide catastrophe.

We meet hilarious animal versions of the Marvel characters we all know and love. We have Iron Mouse, Squawkeye, Quacksilver, J. Jonah Jackal, The Unhumanati instead of the Illuminati and It’s really, really cool! The interactions between Peter Porker and the Avengers are cringe worthy but in the best possible way. As the story progresses you find out that the threat that our heroes are dealing with only has one solution, a hero needs to travel into the multiverse and find the origin and stop it before it’s too late. Peter grows as a character in this story, he goes from annoying nuisance to…… slightly less annoying selfless hero. His call to action is finding out what the other heroes really think of him and being the only hero who has traveled into different dimensions decides to take matters into his own hands. Peter ends up face to face with Mary Jane Watson but the twist is she’s human. Looks like Peter Porker has traveled to the 616 Universe.

The story was perfectly paced and the artwork was a beautiful compliment. The action flowed nicely and the cute easter eggs made this issue a treat. We seem to be headed down the direction of Spider-verse and if this 1st issue is any indication we are in for a heck of a ride!. I cannot wait to see what’s in store for us in the coming issues.

Issue 2 of Peter Porker the Spectacular Spider-Ham hits shelves 1/29/2020
