REVIEW: EXCELLENCE #1

Excellence #1 hits the ground running and it does not slow down. Not even when the issue ends. This is a story of adversity, obstacles and overcoming it all; all to prove your worth.

EXCELLENCE

We find ourselves with the protagonist Spencer Raymond Dales who has not yet developed the magical skills in order to live up to the family name. Shamed by his peers, the outside world and his very own father. Spencer finds solace in rage, anger and resentment. Channeling that anger to prove himself worthy enough to be acknowledged by his father and live up to his legendary lineage.

As he grows older, so does his anger. He feels as if he’s not good enough. We find this out through the conversation he has with his Grandmother, GG. Theres a lot of relatable themes here as I mentioned above this is a story of adversity, obstacles and challenge and having to overcome it all to prove yourself, to your peers and your family.

The story and what this oversized issue provides, really drives that home. While subtly establishing and planting the seeds to a bigger universe. While the seeds are small, I can see this universe expanding to great depths and giving us all a story worthy of reading.

EXCELLENCE

The artwork is great. The colors great. Lettering is great. All is great in this book. I went in blind and came out wanting more! I cannot wait for Excellence #2. I highly recommend this book to anyone.

The creative team behind it consisting of Brandon Thomas, Khary Randolph, Emilio Lopez and Deron Bennett. A group of diverse creators did a tremendous job on this issue. Make sure to add it to your pull-list this week!
