The Skrulls have arrived on Earth once again and they are seeking to infiltrate and take over Earth.
Meet the Warner Family or should I say meet a family of Skrulls. Shapeshifting aliens living amongst the humans for the survival of their race. First we meet Alice Warner during a school field trip at a local museum and she’s dealing with what we would consider a couple of “mean girls” from her school. With that comes the typical name calling and sort of subtle bullying that’s associated with the mean kids we used to deal with at school. Interrupted by her teacher, Alice disappears, not to be seen until she arrives at home for dinner, where we realize that she’s in fact a Skrull.
Gathered at dinner Alice is visibly bothered. Only to be confronted by her dad because she’s not in her normal form. Who would’ve thought that was a household rule when it came to Skrulls but hey, I’m here for it.
As dinner goes on the Warners pass along information that they have gathered throughout their day. Typical Skrull intel infiltration. Protocol sorta speak. The mother (Gloria) passes along her information and we learn about Project Blossom. What is Project Blossom? We don’t know….yet!
As the father talks about his day, he mentions his boss. Who’s his boss? The one and only Tony Stark. Who smashed into Stark Industries fighting some robotic enemy. I’m thinking its Agents Echo Lima from the beginning of the issues, but its not made clear. But I digress. Back to Carl as he assists Iron Man in defeating said enemy.
Alice has failed her mission to gather her intel needed for the fight against Project Blossom. She’s chastised, not for failing her mission, but for using her shapeshifting powers in public. Deliberately knowing it is forbidden. Knowing it can put not only her, but her family in a life and death situation.
Later confronted by his boss Moloth. Carl is made aware and held accountable for his daughter’s mistake. As her ability signature was detected when she shape-shifted into the butterfly earlier in the story.
Moloth sees Alice as a liability. As The Elders has grown concerned, Moloth sees her as a weak minded Skrull who’s mind and essentially her will has been weakened due to her time on Earth. and she must be kept in check. Last thing he would want is for Carl and his family to suffer the same fate as the other Skrull agents “The Johnsons”…they were killed.
According to Moloth his mole has informed him about Project Blossom moving on to its next phase. And if the humans succeed at this point then their existence is at risk. But also is their grand mission. Rebuilding The Throneworld on Earth.
Carl is visibly torn and you kind of feel some kind of sympathy with him because so much rests on his shoulders. This isn’t just a family mission. It goes beyond having a safe place to call home. Either he succeeds in this mission, which quite frankly requires every single member of his family to succeed in order for it to be successful or its the end of them and the Skrulls entirely. Humans are the enemy and they must be eradicated.
Meanwhile, the hunt for Carl and his family, has just begun.
Overall, it’s a great introduction as to why the Skrulls are on Earth and what they are here to do. It’s straight to the point and sets up plot points accordingly.
