Daredevil 35 Review The Nerdy Basement

Daredevil #35: Lock Down Part 5 (Review)

Daredevil once more does battle with Bullseye. However, how will she conquer the wrath of three clones of one of Marvel’s greatest marksmen?!

Since the imprisonment of Matt Murdock, Elektra has taken up the mantle of Daredevil. Due to this, she is in the crosshairs of New York’s mayor, Wilson Fisk. The former Kingpin has cloned Bullseye in an attempt to put an end to the vigilante. Three Bullseye were successful in wreaking havoc around the city. With this revelation, Matt breaks out of prison to aid Elektra. Also, the second Daredevil has been receiving help from none other than Typhoid Mary.

We start with Mary, donning her own Daredevil suit. She has the white combat tape, has no mask, and has swords. She tells Bullseye her name and says “burn” multiple times. Explosions echo the city as one of the Bullseyes tries killing a civilian. They are stopped by Mary, with Elektra fighting two of them. After putting one of them on the ground, she discovers the other clones’ existence.

From there, Elektra runs after the three bad guys. She finds herself at a theater. The show playing is “Sai Crimes: The Story of Two Beautiful Assassins” by Bullseye. She enters and sees that he is reenacting the night he killed Elektra! He uses two hostages dressed as the pair and threatens their lives if Daredevil tries anything. The other Bullseyes are hiding and waiting to kill the hostages. Elektra then realizes the one on stage is the real Bullseye.

Courtesy of Tony Stark, she uses tech made for Matt to track the clones. She takes them down and fights the original. The back and forth ends with the clones killing each other; they were told to. The civilians are saved, along with the pair who helped Daredevil. Meanwhile, Mayor Fisk is on the phone with the new Kingpin. They are talking about the current Daredevil and Bullseye situation. They also talk about Izzy’s son. Yet, behind him, there is the fourth Bullseye waiting to strike down Fisk.

Bullseye then teases Daredevil to kill him. She aims for her gun, but the villain shoots first. His bullet ricochets off of a light pole, a tire, and Daredevil’s weapon. He is hit in the leg and attempts to shoot her again. Matt then knocks him out and goes to town on him. Elektra stops him and they are greeted by the police.

Even though he stopped Bullseye, the cops are getting ready to arrest Matt. Then, Iron Man, Spider-Man, and the Fantastic Four show up. One of the policemen freezes as Iron Man tells him that Bullseye is in custody. Also, Assistant District Attorney Kirsten McDuffie shows up. She reveals that Matt helped expose cops killing inmates. The cop does not care and tries arresting Matt. Spider-Man then stands up for the Man Without Fear.

Still, on the phone with Izzy, Fisk is stabbed by the clone. Mary makes it just in time and kills the clone. Fisk catches her before she falls with the clone. Mary apologizes for not protecting Fisk, but he forgives her. He then asks her to marry. She replies with yes as the issue ends.

Chip Zdarsky did a fantastic job with this issue! At first, I was not feeling the whole clone saga. I am glad my mind was changed quickly though. The fact that Bullseye was retelling Elektra’s death was insane. He attempted to redo one of the comic book’s darkest moments. I loved it! Also, having Matt escape to help Elektra was great too. It continues to show how great he is as a hero. Finally, I thought the Avengers showing up was random. Once more, my mind was changed seeing the team defend Matt.

As for the art, it was awesome! Stefano Landini, Francesco Mobili, and Marcio Menyz did a great job as well! Details are present, panels are beautiful, and it is all because of this incredibly hard work. I loved the shots reenacting Elektra’s death. Also, I enjoyed seeing Bullseye’s bullet ricochet. It was great seeing that! Even the use of tech was awesome to see!
