The Death of Doctor Strange #2 Review

Doctor Strange is dead! However, he is alive attempting to solve his own murder?!

Doctor Stephen Strange, known as Earth’s Sorcerer Supreme was killed by an unknown being. Due to the doctor’s untimely death, a barrier was destroyed. This item kept multiple magical beings from invading the planet. The likes of Aggamon, Dagoth, Tiboro, and Umar have already crafted their own kingdoms on Earth. While this is going on, another version of the Sorcerer Supreme is confronted by a fearsome trio of mothers. With the help of other sorcerers and the Avengers, Strange leads them into the battle.

Brother Voodoo, Karl Mordo, Wong, Kaecilius, and more have gathered in the wake of Strange’s homicide. All feel a spirit with them. They are surprised by the Master of Black Magic, Dr. Strange. This is him, but it isn’t him. While talking to the sorcerers, Strange examines his body. He was stabbed in the chest and his hands are missing. It turns out Strange was in the Purple Dimension. He had created a temporal remnant of himself, in case of the event of his death.

The young lady then picks up Strange’s Avengers card. He receives a message from Captain America. Cap has informed him about dimensional invasions happening as they speak. Strange then tells Cap that he was murdered and that he is solving the mystery. Strange is then told that there is no active sorcerer supreme. After asking how big the threat is, Cap tells Strange that no innocents are at risk. Strange then said to ignore them.

Cap is understandably shocked and decides to visit Strange. Then, Strange hears his name being called by a mysterious voice. He runs outside as Wong asks for his help. He sees the purple figure falling and catches her. The person was Clea, the Sorceress Supreme of the Dark Dimension, niece of Dormammu, daughter of Umar, and Doctor Strange’s wife. Clea knows that the remnant isn’t her real husband. She then informs Wong that the Warlords are fleeing, instead of invading.

Turns out they were running from the Three Mothers. The Wyrd, the Crown, and the Crawling show up to take Clea. Strange leads the team in the fight, as Kaecilius and Mordo leave. Also, Mordo is salty about Strange being murdered by someone other than him. As the Crown speaks, they are also confronted by the Avengers. Before the fight begins, Cap reveals to Strange that Clea is his wife.

The fight finally begins as Thor goes head-to-head with the Crown. Iron Man and Captain Marvel attempt to stop the Crawling and Wyrd. Yet, the heroes are knocked down by the mothers. The Avengers and Strange continue their assault but are stopped again. The Three Mothers treat the Avengers like ragdolls. They then leave after bullying them and even allow Clea to stay with the heroes.

This was an interesting issue. It wasn’t bad, but it was decent. The idea of Doctor Strange having a remnant taking his place was really cool! However, we aren’t the sorcerer doing anything during the Three Mothers fight? The Avengers did more than them and aren’t capable of fighting these beings. Jed Mackay’s writing was not bad. It was actually pretty enjoyable. From Doctor Strange regaining his old nickname to Mordo being mad at Strange’s murder. It was this issue’s story that was a little weird. Mostly, because Dr. Voodoo, Wong, and even the spirit dog didn’t even help.

As for the art, Lee Garbett and Antonio Fabela did a fantastic job! The shot of Doctor Strange was beautiful, along with the Avengers. The fight scenes were great too. Yet, my personal favorite shots had to do with the Three Mothers’ appearance. They look disgusting but awesome! Nothing but love for the issue’s art.
