Makoto Shinkai’s hit anime film Weathering With You is hitting U.S. theaters this coming January and while the film is already a massive box office success in Japan. Those looking to indulge deeper into Makoto Shinkai’s film will get the opportunity to do so in manga form in the Summer of 2020.
Vertical has licensed the IP in the U.S. and is bringing up and coming artist Wataru Kubota on-board to illustrate the manga. The first official key visual for the upcoming manga has also been released as well as an official plot synopsis which can be checked out below.
The summer of freshman year of high school. A boy named Hodaka runs away from his island home and goes to Tokyo, where he spends every day in loneness. Then, in a corner of the bustling city he meets a girl named Hina. But he soon finds out that she possesses a mysterious power.
If you missed the East Coast premiere of Weathering With You at this year’s AnimeNYC do not fret. The film opens up in theaters on January 17, with early fan screenings taking place via Fathom Events on January 15 and January 16.
