WARNER BROS. REMOVES TAIKA WAITIT’S LIVE-ACTION AKIRA FILM FROM RELEASE SCHEDULE

WARNER BROS

Taika Waitit’s live-action adaptation of the hit anime series Akira has now gone from indefinitely delayed to completely shelved…for now. Akira has hit a few bumps along the road during its stages of pre-production. Warner Bros. and Taika Waititi were aiming to star full-on production this Fall, aiming to release the film May 21, 2021, that is no longer the case.

The last update we got regarding Taika’s Akira film was that delays were starting to overlap with Taika’s filming schedule for his upcoming film Thor: Love and Thunder which is also slated to release in November 2021., but Taika reassured that the film would still be made. The goal was to get Taika behind the cameras for Akira on the tail-end of Thor: Love and Thunder’s production. Unfortunately for both Taika Waititi and Akira fans alike, this is a film that may or may not see the light of day for quite some time.
