REVIEW: MY HERO ACADEMIA SEASON 4, EPISODE 3 “BOY MEETS…”

HERO

Sir Nighteye has set his foresight on Young Midoriya. As we saw last week, Deku is introduced to Sir Nighteye, former sidekick of Number One Hero: All Might. Mirio believes Izuku is worthy enough to work under Sir Nighteye’s mentorship and decides to bring him, albeit at the request of All Might. Nighteye is immediately unimpressed with Midoriya and finds him useless, despite being the chosen successor of All Might. In all of his brooding glory, Nighteye still gives Midoriya the opportunity to be hired into his work-study program.

HERO

What’s the catch? Steal the seal from Nighteye’s hands. But the challenge won’t be so easy. Why? Sir Nighteye’s Quirk: Foresight lets him see up to one hour (or so it seems) into the future. Granted Nighteye has to make optical and physical contact in order for his Quirk to be activated…..In doing so, he knows all of Deku’s moves before Deku even makes them. Making it nearly impossible for Midoriya to complete the challenge.

During the challenge we learn some things about Nighteye’s feelings towards Deku and All Might’s decision in choosing him over Mirio as his successor. Nighteye feels that Mirio was still the best successor for All Might. Granted this was mentioned in the first episode (I think), but Mirio embodies everything All Might stands for. He’s super energetic, positive and of course, always has a smile on his face. He’s everything All Might was during his tenure as the Number One Hero and he’s everything Deku isn’t.

HERO

As the challenge comes to a close, Deku has failed. Essentially being kicked while he’s down as Sir Nighteye reaffirms his sentiments towards Deku and All Might’s decision. He still feels that Mirio is the more worthy successor to All Might and should still inherent the power of One For All. While this does light a fire within Deku, he still feels defeated. Despite his failure, Nighteye accepts Deku into his work-study program. But there’s a catch once again. Deku has to give up One For All. Nighteye wants to make sure that Deku knows who’s really the most worthy successor by working alongside the Pro Heroes.

HERO

Deku manages to find a winning moment in his defeat. A hollow victory but a victory nonetheless. As he officially joins Sir Nighteye’s agency, Deku is put up to speed with Nighteye’s investigation of Overhaul. Revealing who he is and what his intentions might be. Revealing his connections to the Yakuzas known as the Shie Hassaikai and his recent contact with The League of Villains. A group of villains Deku is all too familiar with. Sir Nighteye reveals that Overhaul hasn’t committed a crime publicly so confronting him would be a reckless move……until you unintentionally cross paths with him and Eri.

HERO

As for the rest of Class 1-A who also failed to get hired into a work-study program get greeted by Shouta Aizawa, Pro Hero Eraser Head. Who reveals to select students that they have been cordially invited to work-study programs.

Overall this episode sets up a lot for the future of the season. If you’re still feeling iffy about Season 4, keep it locked. Its been a slow burn for now but once it gets going and the world of My Hero is overcome by darkness. You will want to tune in!
