The Batman solo film has also seen its fair share of ups and downs during its current development. The long list of issues that The Batman solo film has been dealing with is a topic that can be saved for another day. What we will focus on today is the new details we have learned about The Batman solo film, once again, courtesy of DiscussingFilm.

So what do we know? Well, Ben Affleck has officially stepped down from the role of Batman, publicly confirming it TWICE (for those who were and still are in complete denial). Matt Reeves has given us the current working title of the film which is “The Batman”; even though he has confirmed that it is not the final title for the film. Reeves is also polishing up the script before he officially turns it in (he’s adding more action which is a super plus) and gets production and casting up and running.

The most interesting aspect about this film, is its setting and time in which it takes place. According to DiscussingFilm, The Batman solo film will take place in the 90s and will center around Bruce Wayne‘s early years as Batman. Bruce Wayne will find himself having to go on full blown detective mode (think Batman: The Animated Series), and having to solve a mystery while having to take on mafia boss The Penguin and other yet unannounced villains.

For those who remember, since its early development, Matt Reeves has been very vocal about including Batman’s Rogues Gallery. We can only speculate as to who else he might want to add to this film. I would personally love to see Mr. Freeze, Poison Ivy, Catwoman and Clayface. That’s just me…..Joker and Harley can come later, maybe in the third film if this franchise warrants one (which it will).

Outside of that, what we also know is that, since they’re casting a younger Bruce Wayne/Batman (they’re looking for a name actor between the ages of 25 and 33), they’ll also be looking to cast a younger Jim Gordon and a younger Alfred Pennyworth.
